“We’re expanding the ‘Bridgeverse.'”
Bridgeton star Adjoa Andoh teases a very “twisty” direction for the Netflix drama’s fourth season ahead of its debut.
During an interview with Good Housekeeping, the Lady Danbury actor hinted at a bigger “Bridgeverse” that would give the audience more than they bargained for.
“Everyone knows it’s Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) story,” Adjoah told the publication, “but I can also say that we’re expanding the ‘Bridgeverse’ in terms of where the focus is storytelling-wise.”
She went on to say: “If you love Bridgerton, you’ll get more of the same – but you’ll also get more bang for your buck. Take that as you please.”
While Andoh refrained from giving away spoilers, it’s possible that she could be referring to the fact that the series will be leaning deeper into the upstairs-downs divide which has been teased in the trailer.
Season four is set to follow the romance between Bachelor Benedict Bridgerton and maid Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). The trailer suggests the pair’s love story begins at the Bridgerton’s masquerade ball where Benedict will fall for Sophie despite not knowing her true identity.

Seemingly taking inspiration from the Cinderella story, Benedict’s search for Sophie will involve him finding the “owner of [the] missing glove”, that Sophie leaves behind at the ball.
The leading couple of season four spoke to Metro about exploring the upstairs-downstairs love story this season with Ha referring to the journey as “a blessing”.
“I think it just really opens up whole new doors for Bridgerton,” Ha told Metro. “I think it grounds it. Makes it more realistic-ish. It’s less pretty and shiny and glamorous which I think is quite nice.
“It’s the fourth season now so it’s nice to have a change of energy and pace so I’m excited for the audiences to see that.”
Thompson, who agreed with Ha, added: “It’s nice to see the other side of the coin, because… in a story that does seem to be about fantasy and reality, it is about the performance of the ‘ton and all of that and then suddenly you… you get a stronger flavour of the real world in the Bridgerton world. What reality means in Bridgerton, which I think is really interesting because as I say the ‘ton world can feel like a bit of a bubble sometimes.”
Bridgerton season 4 part one will air on Thursday 29 January with part 2 debuting on Thursday 26 February. Seasons 1-3 are streaming on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
