Fans were confused by a moment in season four of Bridgerton after Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) appeared to leave a vital item behind after reconnecting with Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson).
One moment in Bridgerton season four could have confused even Lady Whistledown herself.
Fans were left wondering about the whereabouts of the white glove belonging to Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) after it played a pivotal role in the first four episodes that were released on Netflix Jan. 29.
During the second episode, Sophie—the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood—sneaks out to attend the Bridgerton family’s masquerade ball, dressing up in a silver dress found in the attic and a pair of long white gloves that belonged to a deceased member of the Penwood family. At the party, Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) removes one of the gloves when the two share a romantic moment together. So, when a disguised Sophie dashes away, Benedict is left with just the glove, à la Cinderella leaving behind her glass slipper.
Once Sophie’s stepmother Araminta (Katie Leung) kicks her out of the Penwood home, Sophie makes a point of taking the remaining glove with her. However, she then appears to leave the glove at the Cavenders’ country home, where she was working as maid, when she and Benedict connect again at the end of episode two.
And fans were quick to point out that she shockingly didn’t take the glove with her to Benedict’s cottage, with one fan writing on Instagram, “She left her bags behind, that included her glove. That’s what I couldn’t stop thinking about.”
“I can’t get past it lol,” another joked, with one user writing, “I COULD not stop thinking about it either.”
But a few fans had a fix for the potential plot hole, pointing out that Sophie’s fellow maid at the Cavenders’ home Hazel (Gracie McGonigal) could have brought the items for her when she joins Sophie to work at Bridgerton House later on.
“I couldn’t quit thinking about this,” one Instagram user said, “so then I just told myself that the other maid brought her stuff to her so I would quit obsessing about it.”
Still, the theory isn’t foolproof, with one person noting, “It’s driving me nuts. And then when the other maid arrived, I thought maybe she’d bring them back for her. NOPE.”
The loss of the glove is just one of the errors fans have noticed since watching the first half of season four—which is based on Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman—with others pointing out that Araminta can be seen sporting a small, flesh colored Band-Aid on her left ear to cover the actress’ cartilage piercing in episode one.
“Bandaids in this era?!” one person wrote on TikTok. “The ton want to know.”
Another added in the comments, “I wish they had covered it better—like put a fancy ear cuff up there or something.”
While we wait to see what other goofs could pop up in part two of Bridgerton season four when it drops on Netflix Feb. 26, keep reading for a behind-the-scenes look at the series.
