As fans recover from the emotional highs of Season 3, Bridgerton is already gearing up for a romantic new chapter in Season 4. This time, it’s Benedict Bridgerton’s turn to fall in love.
Netflix has confirmed that the upcoming season will center on Benedict (played by Luke Thompson). Inspired by Julia Quinn’s novel An Offer From a Gentleman, Season 4 will feature a Cinderella-esque story in which Benedict meets and falls for Sophie Baek, a woman from a humble background whom he encounters in disguise at a masquerade ball.
According to the series’ official synopsis, “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down—until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
At the end of Season 3, viewers saw Benedict struggling with uncertainty about his path in life after ending a complex relationship with Lady Tilley Arnold. The season concluded with a touching scene between Benedict and his sister Eloise as they bonded over shared feelings of doubt.
When Will Season 4 Be Released?
Unfortunately, it may be a while before audiences can see Benedict’s story unfold. Showrunner Jess Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter that the production process takes around two years, despite efforts to speed things up. “We’re working to release the seasons more quickly, but they take eight months to film, plus editing, dubbing, and, of course, the lengthy writing process.”
Who Will Return?
Luke Thompson will reprise his role as Benedict, alongside Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Bridgerton) and Luke Newton (Colin Bridgerton), who both confirmed their return. Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise, is also expected to feature prominently, with Brownell hinting at potential romantic developments for her character. There’s also hope for the return of Kate and Anthony, though Brownell has yet to confirm.
Who Will Play Sophie?
Fans have been curious about who would portray Benedict’s love interest, Sophie. Earlier this year, Brownell kept details under wraps, simply saying that viewers would “see her at some point.” But on September 11, Netflix announced that Yerin Ha, known for her roles in Dune: Prophecy and Halo, has been cast as Sophie Baek.
