Bridgerton star’s new role after Netflix show exit announced as Welsh period drama Madfabulous

Executive producer for Bridgerton, Chris Van Dusen, expressed his regret over the star’s departure, but fans are in luck as it seems she has another period drama lined up for her next major role.

Bridgerton sensation Ruby Stokes is all set to grace the screen in a new period drama titled Madfabulous, taking viewers back to 19th century Wales. Ruby will share the limelight with Callum Howell of It’s A Sin fame, portraying the outlandish noble Henry Paget.

The tale begins as Henry jets back from France to take residence at his familys Anglesey abode and encounters Lily, Ruby’s character, sparking an immediate bond. Developing into tight-knit confidants and platonic lovers, the film delves into the brief life of the extravagant aristocrat who lived only until he was 29.

Revered as a fashion trailblazer, Henry transforms his spiritual haven into a personal playhouse and infamously burns through his entire inheritance.

In addition to the duo of Ruby and Callum, an enviable array of talent rounds out the cast. Rupert Everett, Derry Girls Siobhan McSweeney, Kevin Eldon, Tom Rhys Harries are among the star-studded ensemble. Additional appearances include Coronation Street veteran Ian Puleston-Davies, Steven Speirs, Paul Rhys, Louise Hynes, Louise Brealey, Roger Evans, and Guillaume Gallienne, reports the Express.

Shooting locations stretch across Anglesey, Caernarfon, and Pwllheli, with local director Celyn Jones at the helm Anglesey being his birthplace. Director Celyn Jones enthused, “We have an embarrassment of riches in front of and behind the camera on this Madfabulous film.”

Celebrating the making of the movie in their homeland, he added, “It’s wonderful to be telling this story, this way, right here and now. Henry was a true original and deserves this reimagining, revisiting his legend with a disco lens and a punk heart.”

Ruby, who portrayed Francesca Bridgerton in the first two series of the Netflix hit show, decided not to return for the third season. She left halfway through filming the second season to take on a role in another Netflix production, Lockwood and Co, where she plays Lucy.

Bridgerton’s executive producer Chris Van Dusen expressed his regret over her departure to TV Line, saying: “I love [the character of] Francesca, but we lost her midway through Season 2.” He added that: “After exhausting all other options, she unfortunately had to come out due to reasons beyond our control.”
