Bridgerton stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton have revealed they broke a piece of furniture during a sex scene.
Season three has focused on the blossoming relationship between Colin Bridgerton (Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Coughlan), after Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) got their happily-ever-after in season two.
To celebrate the season concluding this week, Coughlan took to Instagram to share an image of herself and Newton with their thumbs up next to a broken chaise longue.
The caption read: “Part Two is out now, we put our heart and souls into it, hope you love watching it as much as we loved filming it.”
Fans quickly took to the comments section to share their reaction to the mishap, with one writing: “You guys tried to be epic and went for LEGENDARY!”
Another added: “Lmaoooo oh!!!!!! You guys did what you had to do,” while a third wrote: “I’ve been waiting for this all my life it seems,” alongside a laughing emoji.
Coughlan explained how the blunder occurred during a recent appearance on This Morning, saying: “We did stop because we broke the furniture when we were doing it. We were really going for it.
“We’ve worked together for so long that we can communicate without having to say much, and I knew that we were both thinking ‘We’re killing this’.”
The Derry Girls actor previously opened up on her drive to shoot the nude scene as a big “f*** you” to trolls who have criticised her weight online.
“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included. There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice,” she told Stylist.
“It just felt like the biggest ‘f*** you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering. I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f***ing hot I looked!'”
Fans will have to wait a little longer to learn how Penelope and Colin’s romance plays out as the show won’t return for another two years.
Showrunner Jess Brownell recently teased to The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re towards the end with the writers’ room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers’ room’s best work.”
