How a Greek mythology framework may predict every Bridgerton sibling’s destiny, from love arcs to looming conflicts.
A new fan theory, shared on TV Tropes, suggests that the Bridgerton siblings’ names may secretly hint at each character’s destiny, especially due to their connection to Greek mythology.
Daphne, for example, shares her name with the nymph who ran from Apollo and was transformed into a laurel tree. Her Season 1 arc reflects the same, as she feels chased by expectations and changes through love.
Meanwhile, Anthony relates to Marc Antony, known for passion and conflict, which fits his struggle between duty and desire in Season 2. Eloise’s name has a faint connection to Helios, the sun god, suggesting truth, boldness, and the desire to break free from rules.
She also shares parallels with Francesca through medieval women who were judged by society for their affairs, suggesting that their stories may involve dramatic or emotional turning points. While it remains to be seen for Eloise, Francesca’s arc, with the introduction of John Stirling’s cousin, follows this narrative.
Gregory’s name comes from an ancient Greek root meaning watchful, pointing to a steady, loyal nature. The names closely align with the narrative paths the characters have followed so far. And given how closely it resonates with the fates of Daphne, Anthony, and Francesca, the theory might just have some merit.
Will Daphne Return in Bridgerton Season 4?
Bridgerton is returning with Season 4. However, fans might not get to see the return of Daphne this season. Played by Phoebe Dynevor, the character did not appear in Season 3 either, as the actress previously revealed to Variety,
Well I did my two seasons…I’ve done what I wanted to do with that character and she had a great arc. If they ask me back in the future, who knows?

Though Dynevor has remained open to reprising her role, she has revealed that she has not been asked to return in Season 4. “I mean, they’ve not called me yet,” the actress told The Direct in a 2025 interview, adding that she was still waiting for their call.
Dynevor starred in the first season of Bridgerton, which focused on Daphne’s story with Simon Basset. The character returned briefly in the second season but has not appeared since, and she is not expected to return in the upcoming Season 4.
Yrin Ha on Sophie’s Deepest Desire in Bridgerton Season 4
Yerin Ha is taking on the lead role alongside Luke Thompson in the upcoming Bridgerton Season 4 as Sophie Baek. The actress has reflected on her character’s true desires in an interview with Elle. “At the core, Sophie just wants to be seen for who she is on the inside,” she said.
Talking about her character with Netflix, Ha revealed that Sophie’s life is full of challenges, even when it comes to her growing feelings for Benedict, while knowing their worlds aren’t supposed to mix.
“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles — something she constantly has to overcome,” the actress shared.
The actress also hinted at a strong chemistry between the lead characters, noting that the two felt an immediate connection during their chemistry test.
Bridgerton Season 4 will focus on Benedict Bridgerton and his story with Sophie Baek. The season is set to release in two parts on Netflix.
