Bridgerton star Simone Ashley has spoken about her and Jonathan Bailey’s futures on the show.
The actors play Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton respectively on the Netflix series, with their characters taking more of a backseat in the third season after leading the second instalment.
Following the conclusion of the third season, which mainly focused on the love story between Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), the show was renewed for a fourth season.
Ashley has now revealed that both she and Bailey would be eager to appear.
“I really hope [we are involved],” she replied when asked at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival (via PEOPLE).
“Both Johnny and I adore our characters so much and their relationship and what they mean for the show. I think we’ll do all we can with our schedules to make it work so that we can, hopefully.”
Whilst Ashley outlined her desire to appear in the fourth season, showrunner Jess Brownell recently stated that there will be a long wait for the next set of episodes, with Bridgerton season four not expected to air for another two years.
“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film, then they have to be edited, then they have to be dubbed into every language,” she explained.
“The writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace. We’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”
Brownell added that she’s “really excited” about forthcoming storylines, confirming that the writers’ room has almost completed its work on the scripts.
“I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers’ room’s best work,” she continued. “We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”
