After fourteen seasons on the air, the beloved show Blue Bloods is coming to an end (maybe), with the final episodes set to air in the fall. In a new interview, the Blue Bloods star Bridget Moynahan is opening up about her last day on the set with her co-star Tom Selleck and what that emotional experience was like.
Moynahan Emotional Final Day On Blue Bloods
“I think we’re all a little disappointed,” Moynahan, 53, told People Magazine. “We’ve had such a good time. We all want to be there. It’s a real loss.”
Moynahan has played Erin, the daughter of Selleck’s character Frank Reagan, ever since Blue Bloods premiered way back in 2010. She described the show as being “a constant” in their lives.
“This was our daily lives for 14 years,” she explained. “And we’ve all experienced together major life moments together, whether it’s births, deaths, marriages, divorces, illnesses, we’ve had it all together.”
During Moynahan’s last day on set, Selleck made a point of watching her final scene with Donnie Wahlberg.
“I think one of the most beautiful things on that last day for me, I’ll never forget it, is Tom, because he was already wrapped and he came down for Donnie and mine’s last scene,” she recalled.
“We were behind a monitor — I’m getting choked up as I say this — and I had my arm around Tom, and he was holding onto my hands the way my dad did,” Moynahan continued. “We were just so thankful, and he was so gracious. From day one that’s the way it went: ‘Nice to meet you. We are family.’”
‘It Was Really Quite Emotional’
This bond with Selleck simply meant everything to Moynahan.
“That love and appreciation and respect without ever having to say,” she added. “And the appreciation for everything that we had just built while we’re watching our brother, son, teammate and such a voice and face of the show finish his last scene, it was really quite emotional.”
Moynahan went on to say that she and Selleck see the loyal Blue Bloods fans as family as well.
“I have such gratitude for supporting us, cheering us on, for tuning in every Friday night, for caring about the stories and characters, and particularly all the men and women in law enforcement who do put their lives on the line for us,” she said.
As for her last week on set, Moynahan admitted that “every single day was emotional.”
“It was a lot of lasts,” she concluded. “And a lot of really wonderful conversations with people, and a lot of them have been there since day one. So it was a lot of hugs and a lot of tears. It was quite beautiful.”
Selleck Tried To Save Blue Bloods
After the cancellation of Blue Bloods was announced at the end of last year, Selleck spent months trying to save the show. Even in May, Selleck was still hoping that the higher-ups at CBS would “come to their senses” and spare Blue Bloods from cancellation.
“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” Selleck, 79, told CBS News at the time. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”
The final episodes of Blue Bloods are set to begin airing on October 18. Let’s make sure that it goes out on a high by giving it as much viewership as possible!
