Broadway will dim its lights in honor of Jean Stapleton, who died last week at the age of 90.
Stapleton was best known for her role as long-suffering wife Edith Bunker on the hit TV show “All in the Family,” but she was an accomplished stage actress before she ever took her most famous role. 
Stapleton’s theatrical credits include roles in the original cast of “Funny Girl” and “Bells Are Ringing.” She also appeared on Broadway in such plays as “In the Summer House,” “Damn Yankees,” “Rhinoceros” and “Arsenic & Old Lace.”
The marquees of Broadway theaters in New York will be dimmed in her memory Wednesday at exactly 8:00 p.m. for one minute.
“The theater is where Jean Stapleton started, and she often returned to the stage throughout her lengthy and multi-faceted career.
While we all feel like we knew her, thanks to her iconic television role playing Edith Bunker in ‘All in the Family,’ the Broadway community claims her as one of our family,” Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, said in a statement.
