See what’s in store for this colorful crime solver!
There’s something about Carrie Preston’s portrayal of Elsbeth Tascioni on the hit series Elsbeth that’s simply infectious. Whether it be her brightly colored clothes or enduring optimism, it’s hard not to root for the red-headed crime solver. With the third season set to hit screens on October 12, Carrie Preston got candid in this exclusive interview with Woman’s World about what’s next for her character, what it was like working alongside some of this season’s exciting guest stars and bringing this character to life for over a decade.
Elsbeth evolves in Season 3
While fans can certainly anticipate a season full of gripping cases and Elsbeth’s usual charm, something that viewers can expect to see coloring her day is the absence of her close pal, Kaya Blanke, portrayed by Carra Patterson. It was revealed that the actress would be rejoining the third season as a guest star, as her character steps away from the NYPD to take on a new role in D.C. While the ever-so-supportive Elsbeth is rooting for her friend, fans can expect to see Kaya’s departure have an effect on her.
“Kaya needed to go and find her own way, and she got this opportunity, and Elsbeth was wishing nothing but good things for her, but there is a sadness about missing her, her dear friend that she really relies on,” reflected Preston. “But Elsbeth is resilient. Elsbeth is always glass half-full, and she loves her work and her job, and even people who don’t maybe agree with her or understand her or are a little put off by her, that doesn’t deter Elsbeth from being who she is and getting what she wants, which is justice.”
‘Elsbeth’ Season 3 is star studded
As we waited for the premiere of the third season, fans learned that a handful of exciting guest stars would be joining the show—and we can hardly wait! In Elsbeth Season 3, expect to see famous faces like Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Julia Fox, David Cross, Andy Richter and more. “It’s like an embarrassment of riches and it’s such a compliment that these people want to come in and be with us and play with us,” Preston gushes.
While each season of Elsbeth has held something new and exciting for Carrie Preston, the 58-year-old actress has been bringing this character to life since 2010, when she first appeared on The Good Wife. Now, she says, “It feels like she’s just a part of me.” She continued, “Before, when I was on Good Wife and Good Fight, I would only play her maybe once a year, then not even that. So, I would have to kind of get back into her mindset, figure out how she ticks, what would she do in this situation?” Today, says, “It’s second nature, which feels really good, because I can just trust that the character is in me and the instincts are going to be on point.”
Despite playing this character for so long, Preston still finds the whimsy in Elsbeth. “She’s infectious. I find that I am a more curious person. I find that after I play her all day, my heart feels bigger. It feels more open. I wear more colors.” She continued, “It’s a good way to live, live with joy and to live with curiosity and vulnerability. I think it’s a great way to live.”
