Boston Blue has filled out its family with Black-ish vet Marcus Scribner, who has joined CBS’ Blue Bloods spinoff as a series regular, our sister site Variety reports.
In the offshoot, Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan as he makes the move to the Boston Police Department, where he is partnered with Detective Lena Silver (played by Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
Scribner (pictured above) will play Jonah, who is “the youngest member of the Silver family and is in law enforcement like his mother and sisters — each of whom are formidable in their own ways,” reads the official character description. “Always the cool kid growing up, Jonah carries himself with confidence and swagger in all situations, so he’s naturally frustrated at being a rookie cop on the sidelines of the city’s biggest investigations.”
Who Else Will Star in Boston Blue?
In addition to Wahlberg, Martin-Green and Scribner, Psych‘s Maggie Lawson (pictured below) co-stars as Lena’s “strong-willed and decisive” stepsister, Sarah Silver, who is a Superintendent in the Boston PD. Her position forces her to sometimes walk a tightrope between her job and her family.
The ensemble also includes ER vet Gloria Reuben as Lena’s widowed mother, Mae Silver, who is Boston’s District Attorney. Despite her high-profile job, Mae tries to put her blended family ahead of her work whenever possible. She lost her judge husband after he was murdered on the courthouse steps.
Ernie Hudson rounds out the cast in the Tom Selleck-esque patriarch role for the Silver clan. Hudson will portray Lena’s grandfather and Mae’s father, Reverend Peters, a renowned and open-minded pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston.
Will Other Blue Bloods Characters Appear?
While there hasn’t been any news about Wahlberg’s former castmates making a visit to Boston, the actor hinted at the possibility, emphasizing that the two series will very much be tied to each other.
“Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family’s. You can’t have Danny without Reagans,” Wahlberg said during CBS’ 2025-26 fall schedule presentation, according to TVLine.
Wahlberg went on to add that “there’ll be connective tissue to the old family. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories and still telling the Reagan stories.”
And should the creative team need some crossover ideas, here are 12 OG characters who have to make an appearance on the spinoff.
When Will Boston Blue Premiere?
CBS has yet to announce a premiere date for the series, but fans won’t have to wait too long to watch it: The show is slated to debut this fall, airing Fridays at 10/9c (which was Blue Bloods‘ timeslot during its run).
Is There a Trailer For Boston Blue?
Not yet. But Wahlberg did share the following quick promo (featuring old footage, unfortunately) to tout the show’s fall launch.
