CBS Announces Major Cancellations: 6 Shows Axed Before 2025–26 Lineup

Several big name television shows have been axed as the current season draws to a close, which means CBS viewers are getting their final fix before the network firms up their fall schedule

As viewers prepare for the current seasons of their most favorite television shows to come to an end, the question always remains: will they be renewed or will they be canceled?

CBS has been busy approving a string of their offerings to return for the 2025-26 season including fan favorites such as all three current NCIS offerings, Justin Hartley’s Tracker, and fantasy sitcom Ghosts. However, there can only be room for so much TV and sadly, several shows have also been given the chop for next season.

While some titles appear to have run their course and others simply didn’t make the cut, there’s also a few surprises amongst the list of series that have been culled before the new season.

Here are the six major shows already confirmed to be returning to CBS in the fall…

Blue Bloods

Blue Bloods fans have remained hopeful of a divine intervention since it was confirmed in late 2023 that the show would be coming to an end. The series officially ended in December after 14 seasons and unfortunately it has not been brought back from the dead.

However, CBS has ordered a spin-off series, Boston Blue, which will see Donnie Wahlberg reprise his tole as Danny Reagan and heading to Massachusetts to take on a job where his partner is the eldest daughter of a significant law enforcement family.

As of yet the show has no official premiere date but it will be on the 2025-26 schedule.

FBI Most Wanted

It was confirmed in March that FBI spin-off, FBI: Most Wanted, would end with the current and sixth season. The axe came as a bit of a surprise to fans as the show has generally done well alongside its FBI counterparts as a Tuesday night offering.

The show could still be picked up elsewhere and for viewers who still want their special agent fix, a new spin-off entitled CIA has been added to the CBS roster.

That offering will star Lucifer’s Tom Ellis and will feature an FBI agent and a CIA agent who team-up as part of a special task force in New York City.

FBI: International

Back in March, it was also confirmed that FBI: International’s fourth season – which is currently airing – would be the last. Again there is hope for some fans that it will get picked up elsewhere due to it’s popularity in the Tuesday night slot.

There is also some hope for the possibility that the new offering, CIA, could see characters from any of the FBI show make an appearance as the full cast yet is yet to be announced.

S.W.A.T.

S.W.A.T has already been given a lifeline twice in less than a year, but it seems the drama series – which first aired in 2017 – could definitely be facing the cull once and for all.

March saw the announcement that it was being cancelled for a third time with actor Shemar Moore taking to social media and urging another network or streaming service to pick it up.

New episodes of S.W.A.T. Season 8 are still currently airing on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS with a few instalments from the 22-episode season yet to air. There could still be a pick-up elsewhere with fans remaining hopeful.

Poppa’s House

The creation of Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. had an unfortunate start when the 2023 strikes forced them to postpone the original air date in the 2023-24 season.

Sadly, Poppa’s House has now been axed after just one season due to three comedy shows competing for one available spot.

The series is in fact the only freshman offering this season not to be renewed by CBS. Unfortunately, it lost out to comedy pilot DMV which secured the only spot available.

The Summit

The Summit appears to have reached its peak after just one season with the reality competition series not being renewed for a second run.

The show, which is hosted by Manu Bennett, saw 16 contestants compete in truly treacherous conditions as they battled to make it to the top of the mountain and secure a cash prize all while adhering to the Mountain’s Keepers rules.

Sadly, despite the twists and turns and shocking conditions, it simply wasn’t enough for it to be brought back to TV screens.
