In March 2025, CBS surprised many fans by announcing the cancellation of two popular spin-offs of the FBI franchise: FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. Both shows had aired six and four seasons respectively. Despite their solid ratings and loyal audiences, CBS cited financial reasons as the primary factor behind the decision.
Reasons Behind the Cancellation
According to CBS, the two spin-offs no longer made economic sense to continue producing. While FBI: Most Wanted averaged about 6.5 million viewers per episode, reflecting a 10% decline from the previous season, FBI: International averaged around 6.53 million viewers, also down 10%. These decreases in viewership contributed to CBS’s choice to end the shows.
The Original “FBI” Series Continues
Despite the cancellations, the original FBI series remains strong and has been renewed through Season 10. Season 8 is scheduled to premiere this fall, continuing to follow the New York FBI task force as they tackle complex and high-stakes cases.
A New Spin-Off: “FBI: CIA”
CBS has also announced a new spin-off titled FBI: CIA, expected to debut this fall. This new series will focus on a joint task force comprising a CIA operative and an FBI agent working together to combat domestic terrorism in New York. The storyline will be largely standalone and will not heavily connect with previous FBI series.
Fan Reactions
Following the cancellation news, many fans expressed their disappointment on social media. A significant number of viewers felt FBI: International was the strongest installment of the franchise and questioned why it was canceled. Some have started petitions urging CBS to reconsider, hoping to revive or continue the spin-offs on other platforms.
