CBS Leaves The Equalizer in Limbo While Finalizing Fall 2025 Lineup

As television shows are being axed across several networks, CBS has not yet finalized its fall lineup and one show’s fate is still hanging in the air

As the 2025-2026 television season approaches, networks are slashing their current lineups and axing shows to to make room for new programing.

Peacock, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, and several others, have announced the end of several original programs, many after just one season. CBS has dropped a whopping six shows from its lineup so far, with one show’s fate still up in the air.

The Equalizer, which stars Queen Latifah, is currently airing its fifth season on the network, though it has not been confirmed if the show will continue or be canceled – so it’s possible that the show may still get a sixth and final season. It comes as 6 shows CBS has canceled ahead of the 2025-2026 TV season have been revealed.

As CBS finalizes its fall lineup and the Season 5 finale approaches, the future of The Equalizer is still up in the air. The crime drama series is still in talks for a sixth and final season, however, budget constraints and contract negotiations with the show’s stars are reportedly slowing down the process.

On April 22, CBS announced a potential spinoff series starting Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz was scrapped by network execs.

So far, six shows have been cancelled by the network, including the law enforcement dramas Blue Bloods, FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International, and S.W.A.T.; the new reality competition series The Summit; and the comedy Poppa’s House starring real-life father and son duo Marlon Wayans and Marlon Wayans Jr.

Fans are reeling over the cancellation of the highly rated comedy series Poppa’s House after just one season. The network’s fall comedy slot will be now filled by the Tim Meadows-led workplace comedy DMV.

Viewers were not surprised over the cancellation of the reality competition show The Summit after its inaugural season, however, as it received poor ratings and viewership failed to take off.

CBS has greenlit the return of all three current NCIS series, including its latest iteration Origins, as well as Justin Hartley’s Tracker and the fantasy sitcom Ghosts.

The procedural drama Einstein, starring Matthew Gray Gubler as Albert Einstein’s great-grandson Lewis Einstein, was picked up by the network, but has been delayed and will now premiere during the 2026-2027 television season.

The Season 5 finale of The Equalizer premieres on Sunday, May 4.
