Charithra Chandran Is the Diamond of the Oscars in Emerald Gown ng01

The former Bridgerton star made her Academy Awards debut tonight.

Queen Charlotte would be proud: Charithra Chandran, who played Edwina Sharma on season two of Bridgerton, has made her Oscars debut in a stunning emerald Miss Sohee gown from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2024 Couture Collection.

Chandran rose to fame on Bridgerton season two, portraying the younger sister of Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). The Sharmas were not Indian in the books, but their heritage was changed from in the Netflix adaptation. “When you see the comments from young brown girls, it makes you think, ‘Well, this is everything,’” Chandran told Town & Country. “Any doubt that I had in my brain, any pressure I might feel, that makes it worth it.”

Currently, she can be seen in One Piece on Netflix, a live-action adaptation of the 1997 Japanese manga series. She plays Nefertari Vivi, also known as “Miss Wednesday.” “I don’t think I realized how big Bridgerton was. I don’t think I realized truly how big One Piece is, how many fans it has,” she told Teen Vogue.

Like in Bridgerton, her character’s background was also changed. “I never wanted to seem like I don’t see all the love and positivity, which I do think is the majority of the fan base; but sometimes people fail to realize that there is a human being on the other side of what they say,” she said. “You can not like the casting…. Who am I to tell you how to feel? …The reality is, these things don’t get to me as much as I think people would hope for, but I’m never going to let racism or misogyny slide.”
