During an interview with FOX11 Los Angeles, Cox was asked what Matt Murdock would fare as a contestant in Hell’s Kitchen, and his answer was hilarious: “I’ve always assumed that he’s a very, very good chef, so he wouldn’t need any scales, he’d know the exact amount of herbs…it’d be precise.”
I think Cox raises a good point. With Daredevil’s hyper senses, he’s able to detect a variety of smells, sounds, and even tastes, meaning that he’d be a phenomenal cook. In fact, Daredevil: Born Again actually does feature a scene where Matt Murdock cooks dinner for his girlfriend Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), which Cox admits in the interview was tricky because he had to rely on touch and memory to navigate said scene. But I have to know: could Daredevil handle the volcanic fury of Gordon Ramsay?
Matt Murdock Could Definitely Make It on ‘Hell’s Kitchen’
Yet there’s one element that I think could prove to be a problem for Matt, and it’s the potential overload for his super senses. Plenty of Daredevil comics and episodes of the original Daredevil show that enough noise or smells could overwhelm Matt to the point where he experiences sensory shutdown. Combine that with the fact that Hell’s Kitchen takes place in a bustling kitchen full of other cooks, in a packed restaurant, and Ramsay shouting out orders, and it’s a recipe for disaster, if you’ll pardon the pun. But Matt has managed to get a handle on his senses, so maybe he’d have a chance.
I Would Love To See a Marvel-Styled Cooking Show – Preferably With Marvel Heroes
The idea of Daredevil in Hell’s Kitchen also makes me think: What if there were a cooking show featuring all of Marvel’s characters? I’d love to see Hell’s Kitchen: Marvel Edition. The possibilities are endless, and quite hilarious. Spider-Man would more than likely have a dozen pots going at once, and try to figure out why his spider-sense is blaring at him. The Thing and H.E.R.B.I.E. would make quite the culinary duo, based on the teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
In fact, there actually has been a Marvel-themed cooking show, titled Marvel: Eat the Universe. It features chef Justin Warner creating several dishes inspired by Marvel characters, including Venom and the Thing. Warner even created a whole Marvel: Eat the Universe cookbook featuring unique recipes! But what sticks out the most about Eat the Universe is the guests Warner brought in, including Zach Cherry (who appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Lyrica Okano, who starred in Runaways.
I think that Marvel should bring back Eat the Universe so that Cox can cook a Daredevil-inspired dish, or reveal what Daredevil’s favorite food would be. I’d also settle for a guest judging spot on Hell’s Kitchen, just for the puns alone.
Daredevil: Born Again is available to stream on Disney+.
