Chicago Fire boss gives disappointing update on Violet crossover

Chicago Fire’s Violet Mikami won’t be the focus of a Chicago One universe crossover any time soon after all, despite boss Andrea Newman’s previous promise.

Speaking to TVLine back in September, the co-showrunner had referenced Covid-related issues when asked about a potential major three-way episode (between Fire, Med and PD) this season, yet a planned mini crossover was confirmed to feature Violet’s family.

Now, however, it’s sounding like that’s been canned.

“Right now, there are no plans to do a family-related story for Violet with a connection to Med,” Newman told the same publication recently.

“But we love when we have characters that can cross over to both shows, so who knows what will happen in the future!”

The last big three-part crossover special aired four years ago and witnessed the Windy City’s firefighters, police officers and paramedics banding together to stop the spread of a flesh-eating bacteria.

In other news, it was announced last month that Chicago Fire stalwart Taylor Kinney would be hanging up Lieutenant Kelly Severide’s hard hat for a little while to deal with an unspecified personal matter, according to Deadline.

The US drama’s cast and crew were notified of his absence, while the scripts needed to be altered in order to contextualise his character’s sudden disappearance from the action.

Kinney, who also played Mason Lockwood in The Vampire Diaries, has been a mainstay in the Chicago One universe for over a decade.

Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med air on NBC and Peacock in the US, while UK fans can catch them on Sky Witness.
