Fans were left devastated after Kara left her much-loved character behind
CHICAGO Fire have recruited a new cast member after Kara Killmer’s recent exit.
The franchise let go of Kara Killmer a month ago and has now hired a beloved Hallmark star, Jocelyn Hudon, who starred in Romance With a Twist.
Kara’s final episode on February 28, she married her fiancé Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer), who is a firefighter at the fictional fire department Firehouse 51 in Chicago, Illinois.
Sylvie (Kara) is a paramedic at the same fire department that Matt works at.
Now, Jocelyn is taking over as a recurring paramedic role, according to Deadline.
Jocelyn was recently nominated for the best actress in a feature at the 2024 Mammoth Film Festival for her leading role in The Fall.
She has had a background in Hallmark romance movies, but will making her television drama debut.
Chicago Fire has been renewed for 2024 and 2025 along with Chicago Med and Chicago P.D.
Chicago Fire fans admitted on social media that they weren’t ready to let go of Kara’s character.
Kara teased on X, which used to be Twitter, that Matt and Sylvie’s nuptials would be a sight to see.
“#Brettsey wedding RSVP: BYOB—Bring your own bubbles. @WolfEnt @NBCOneChicago,” she tweeted, attaching a GIF of a fish with a shocked expression on its face.
Many fans on X shared that they were upset that Brettsey wasn’t going to be on the show in the same capacity in the near future.
Brettsey is an amalgamation of Sylvie and Matt’s last names.
“As much as I am happy that #Brettsey is getting married I really don’t want to say goodbye to Sylvie and Matt. #ChicagoFire,” one fan tweeted.
“Damn Sylvie gone already?! #ChicagoFire,” added another.
“I hate knowing these are some of the last episodes we see of Sylvie #ChicagoFire,” wrote a third.
“KARA IM CRYING AT THE PROMO FOR THE WEDDING,” noted a fourth.
“Kara i think you gonna need to buy a box of tissues I am not going to survive next week #brettsey#ChicagoFire,” said a fifth.
THE END
Kara previously discussed the “natural end” for her character.
“It’s kind of a perfect bookend, really,” she told Deadline.
“I’m selfishly delighted over the fact that Sylvie shows up in Chicago a jilted bride who was dumped at the altar by her high school sweetheart and then ends up across the aisle in her last episode from Matt Casey, the love of her life,” she said.
“I just love that her character has been able to come full circle and it’s it’s such a great way to exit her journey. It’s sort of perfect timing,” she continued.
She also called the time she spent shooting her final episode “bittersweet, but more sweet than bitter, for sure.”
