Chicago Fire Could Sideline a Firehouse 51 Favorite Ahead of the One Chicago Crossover md18

New details suggest someone at Firehouse 51 could end up missing the One Chicago crossover.

History might be about to repeat itself within the One Chicago universe. As Chicago Fire fans will recall, when the 2025 One Chicago “In the Trenches” crossover rolled around last season, there was one notable member of the Chicago Fire team absent from the three-show crossover event.

The week before the One Chicago crossover, Joe Minoso’s character Joe Cruz was placed on a two-week suspension for conduct unbecoming. The suspension came after Cruz came clean to Chief Pascal about withholding information and lying about his connection to the fire that killed a former gang member. That suspension came ahead of the One Chicago crossover and resulted in Cruz failing to appear in the annual crossover event, as the character was still on suspension when the events of the crossover occurred.

While it might not be a suspension that sidelines someone from Firehouse 51 from participating in the 2026 One Chicago crossover, it does appear that one member of the team could be getting sidelined from the annual event.

NBC has released the synopsis for episode 12, “Coming in Hot,” which will air on February 4, and it seems someone at Firehouse 51 is about to find themselves in harm’s way. In the synopsis for the episode, it is revealed that a member of the firehouse is injured on a call that puts Pascal under intense scrutiny.

There is no information provided about the severity of the injury or which member of the Firehouse 51 team will be injured on the call, but the fact that this injury will put Pascal under intense scrutiny seems to suggest this isn’t going to be some minor injury. After all, we saw Vasquez injured in a recent call when an airbag went off and knocked him to the ground, and there was no blowback on Vasquez, Kidd, or Pascal.

It’s also important to note that it has been confirmed that Dermot Mulroney will be taking a step back from Chicago Fire following the crossover episode, with a new Chief coming in to replace him. Given that Pascal’s exit will occur in the episode that airs directly after someone at Firehouse 51 is injured on a call, it seems likely that his exit could be connected to the injury. And if that is the case, we have to imagine this injury will be severe enough to sideline the injured party for at least a few shifts.

If that ends up being the case, there is a good chance that whichever character is injured in episode 12 will not appear in the One Chicago crossover event. After all, the crossover is set to take place directly after the events of episode 13, and as last year taught us, Chicago Fire isn’t afraid to sideline a character in the crossover in order to maintain continuity with an ongoing story.

As the identity of the injured firefighter is kept hidden, One Chicago fans can hope that perhaps the injury will be connected to a secondary or background character rather than to one of the core firefighters. However, fans will want to begin preparing themselves for the reality that someone from Chicago Fire could miss the One Chicago crossover due to the injury storyline. We’ll find out for certain when Chicago Fire season 14, episode 12, “Coming in Hot,” airs on February 4 at 9/8c on NBC.
