Chicago Fire Fans Heartbroken as Two Beloved Characters Exit the Show

Chicago Fire stars Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett could be leaving the NBC series after 13 seasons. And needless to say, fans are wrecked.

Deadline reported the NBC series will be cutting the stars to save costs if the show gets renewed for a 14th season. The outlet also notes there is also a possibility that the next season will reduce the number of episodes long-time cast members star in even further.

Kyri joined the cast in Season 7 as Firefighter Darren Ritter, while Lockett joined the cast as Firefighter Sam Carver in Season 11. Both characters were beloved additions to the show; Darren became a well-liked member of the team in Firehouse 51, while Sam struggled with his own personal demons while juggling his relationship with Violet (Hanako Greensmith).

However, fans may still get a chance to say goodbye to their beloved characters. Deadline notes the characters may still get a proper sendoff on the show as production is still underway.

After the news broke, viewers quickly took to X to express their frustration with the show, which has become known for abruptly writing characters off.

Many fans took issue with their decision to separate Sam and Violet. “They were perfect Chicago Fire is so sick for taking them away from me that show never lets me have anything,” one fan wrote, while another asked, “Writers what is your beef with violet’s love interests???”

Others on social media suggested cutting other characters instead. “Instead you got rid of 2 of your most interesting dynamic characters who earned their spots in that firehouse. Huge loss and mistake,” a viewer wrote on X.

Some fans even declared they were “done watching” the show due to the news. “I’m upset. These two deserves so much better,” another fan wrote.
