Chicago Fire is saving a lot of the action for its last few season 12 episodes. We already know, via the promo, that episode 11011 is going to be a wild ride for Severide (Taylor Kinney), but now NBC has put out the synopsis and release date for the season finale.
There are revelations involving characters that we know and love, as well as newcomers. Mouch (Christian Stolte) has been on a quest to reinvent himself in season 12 after nearly dying, and it looks as though the veteran firefighter is going to be confronted with yet another challenge. We will also get to see more of Jack Damon (Michael Bradway).
The biggest revelation the synopsis provides, however, is that Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) will return. The character decided to take a leave of absence a few episodes back, and put Severide in charge. The decision has been an exciting switch up in many ways, as fans have gotten to see the vet in a higher position of power.
Severide in charge is arguably the most exciting version of the character we’ve gotten all year. It did come at the sacrifice of Boden not being around, however. The chief didn’t say how long he planned to be on his leave of absence, but the synopsis confirms that he will return to play a vital role in the main storyline.
The synopsis for the finale, which is titled “Never Say Goodbye,” reads as follows:
“Boden makes a decision that impacts the race for Deputy Commissioner. A tense call brings up painful memories for Carver and Damon. Mouch struggles to adjust to the new Truck.”
The mention of a new truck leads us to believe that something will happen to the old one in the episode in which Severide is taken hostage. The Deputy Commissioner storyline is something that’s been brewing all year, thanks to the crooked efforts of Chief Robinson (Laura Allen).
Robinson has tried to make life as difficult as possible for Boden and Firehouse 51, so it’ll be nice to see Boden step up and have one final showdown with her. Hopefully he prevails.
