“Chicago Fire” Has a New Kid on the Block! Joey McIntyre to Face Off with 51 as a Firefighter from Another House

“Had a blast repping a rival firehouse with these good people,” wrote McIntyre next to his Instagram announcement

PEOPLE can confirm that the New Kids on the Block member, 51, will be jumping into a firefighter uniform to appear in season 12 of Chicago Fire. Eager fans won’t have to wait too long to see him suited up as his guest appearance is scheduled to air during the Wednesday, May 15 episode.

In the upcoming episode, McIntyre plays Lorenzo, a firefighter at a competing station who shows a fun, competitive spirit with Tony (Tony Ferraris) and Capp (Randy Flagler) when they try to break a firetruck “fastest rescue squad pull” record.

The post included various photos of McIntyre on set and with members of the cast. His New Kids on the Block bandmate Donnie Wahlberg celebrated the news by commenting, “Let’s go! 🔥”

Fans shared just as much excitement, with one commenting, “I’m so excited for this! One of my favorite shows ❤️.” Another wrote, “I’ve been waiting for this announcement! Can’t wait to watch the episode! 🔥”

This season of Chicago Fire, which picked up six months after last May’s season finale, has a star-studded cast, including Taylor Kinney, Hanako Greensmith, Miranda Rae Mayo, David Eigenberg, Joe Minoso, and Eamonn Walker.

Deadline reported earlier this month that Walker will scale back his series regular role as Wallace Boden after season 12 but is expected to reprise it in a recurring capacity in future seasons.

McIntyre will be keeping busy following his appearance on the show as the New Kids on the Block’s upcoming album, Still Kids, will be released on Friday, May 17.

It marks the first album from McIntyre, Wahlberg, Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, and Danny Wood to be released in 11 years.

“It says a lot about any band to make a record that has energy and passion and lightness and fun and depth – after almost 40 years together? It’s crazy,” said McIntyre in a press release statement.

The album is described as being full of “pop anthems, dance tracks, love songs, and grooves” and will be performed by the band live on The Magic Summer 2024 Tour that kicks off in June.
