With only a few more episodes of Season 12 left, fans are worried that a favorite Chicago Fire couple may be heading for a major breakup. Are Cruz and Chloe divorcing on Chicago Fire? Keep reading to find out.
Chicago Fire is NBC’s hit procedural that follows the professional and personal lives of the firefighters, rescue personnel, and paramedics at the Chicago Fire Department’s fictional Firehouse 51. Produced by Dick Wolf, the series is the first installment of the One Chicago franchise, which includes the spinoffs Chicago P.D., Chicago Med and the now-canceled Chicago Justice. It first premiered in 2012 and is currently on its 12th season.
Joe Minoso has starred as Joe Cruz, a Firehouse 51 firefighter and the former driver of Truck 81, since Season 1. Cruz first met Chloe (played by Kristen Gutoskie) during a building fire in the Season 7 crossover episode “Going to War.” The couple got married in Season 8 and went on to welcome a son, Brian Leon “Otis” Cruz, who they named after Cruz’s late best friend Brian “Otis” Zvonecek. The pair also took in an orphan named Javi in Season 10 and adopted him.
Compared to other Chicago Fire couples, Cruz and Chloe have been a pretty solid. That is about to change, however, as the next few episodes hint at trouble in paradise. Read on to see if Cruz and Chloe are getting a divorce.
Are Cruz and Chloe divorcing on Chicago Fire?
Are Cruz and Chloe divorcing on Chicago Fire? Although we don’t know for sure, the official synopsis for Season 12 Episode 12, which airs on May 15, suggests that the fan-favorite couple may be facing a rocky patch in their marriage. The episode description reads: “Severide and Violet risk clashing with Paramedic Chief Robinson after Lennox makes a dangerous decision on a call; Capp and Tony attempt to break a world record; Cruz and Chloe’s marriage problems come to a head.”
While it is unknown what problems the pair will be dealing with, we’re assuming it has something to do with their adopted son Javi. Per the synopsis of the May 1 episode, someone from Javi’s past “resurfaces.” Will Cruz and Chloe have to fight for custody of him? Could they lose him for good?
Back in Season 10, Cruz rescued Javi from a burning building and developed a close bond with the boy. The firefighter originally intended on looking after Javi just until they tracked down his family, but when they couldn’t find any relatives, Cruz made the decision to adopt him. It’s very possible that a relative of Javi’s will turn up in Chicago and want to raise him. Not much is known about his past, aside from the fact that he was an orphan from Honduras who was being looked after by a missionary woman. Clearly whatever occurs in Episode 10 will cause a strife between Cruz and Chloe, the only question is: Can the pair pull through?
Cruz and Chloe are not the only couple facing marital issues this season. Ever since Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) returned from his arson investigation training program, he and his wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), have been going through a rough patch. Severide wants to continue to pursue arson investigation, which has put a strain on their marriage, and Stella still has some trust issues after Severide abruptly left her for the training program.
