We’ve got some bad news for the One Chicago fans out there. While NBC was originally slated to air new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD this Wednesday night, the network has been forced to unexpectedly preempt the shows and send them on a brief hiatus for the week.
That’s right, there will be no new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD airing on Wednesday, Jan. 15 as originally scheduled with NBC forced to pull the planned new episodes from the lineup to make room in its primetime schedule for President Joe Biden’s farewell address. Here’s what fans need to know.
President Biden has announced that he will give his farewell speech ahead of the United States Presidential Inauguration of Donald Trump on Jan. 20 on Wednesday night. With the farewell address set to be broadcast on Wednesday night at the top of the primetime schedule, NBC will be airing special news coverage of the address in the opening hour.
As the network works to keep the One Chicago shows on the same schedule, the network has opted to pull all three shows rather than airing new episodes of just a few of the shows. Interestingly, rather than airing reruns of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD in the shows’ normal timeslots, NBC has announced it will follow coverage of President Biden’s farewell address with two reruns of Chicago Med.
With the One Chicago shows pulled from the schedule this week, the shows will be taking an unexpected hiatus but the good news is that they will return with new episodes on Jan. 22 as confirmed via the official One Chicago Twitter. What is unclear is whether the unexpected break in the schedule will have any impact on the show’s planned One Chicago crossover event which is slated to air on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Given NBC did not put out a statement announcing any delay of the crossover event, it seems the network might have planned for the shows to take a break on Jan. 22 but that break will come this week instead.
