A new update for Chicago Fire season 12 is reassuring for those who have been pulling hard for Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd to have a great future.
Amid a rocky first couple of years as a married couple, a brand new update for Chicago Fire season 12 is great news for Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide. Following years of dating, Kidd and Severide finally tied the knot in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale. The event, albeit not without issues, ended up a success. There was no doubt that the pair loved each other, but external circumstances, not to mention their past baggage, had made it difficult for them to maintain a steady romance. So when they finally tied the knot, it was welcomed with optimism.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Right after they married, their honeymoon was hampered by an attempt on their lives. Subsequently, Kidd was in a near-death experience during a call gone wrong. Instead of Severide making sure to keep a close eye on her, he eventually went out of town for an OFI training. By the Chicago Fire season 11 finale, he still hadn’t returned, prompting Kidd to bring his home. This has been the main source of their conflict, but the way things are shaping in Firehouse 51, the couple’s future may not be too grim.

Severide & Kidd’s Marriage May Be Safe…For Now.
Romances have always been at the forefront of Chicago Fire’s story. It’s the show’s way of balancing its case-per-week storytelling format. So many couples have come together and broken up in Chief Boden’s house. For a while now, it feels like Severide and Kidd are just a big fight away from separating. However, the synopsis for Chicago Fire season 12, episode 12, “Under Pressure,” reveals that there’s another Firehouse 51 couple whose marriage is on the brink of collapse —Joe Cruz and his long-time wife, Chloe. No word on why they are having issues, but it has been alluded to.
It’s uncertain where One Chicago is going with Cruz and Chloe’s marital issue, especially on the heels of Javi’s story in Chicago Fire season 12, episode 10, “The Wrong Guy.” Regardless of what the future holds for them, however, it has an indirect impact on Severide and Kidd’s story, and it’s a positive one. Chicago Fire is no stranger to splitting up love lines, even ones who seem to be perfect for each other. That said, it is highly unlikely that NBC and Wolf Entertainment will break up more than one married couple.
It does seem like Chicago Fire will make a big deal out of Cruz and Chloe’s marital woes, which leaves the show very little time to tackle another rocky relationship without bringing down the overall tone of the first-responder procedural.
This means that Severide and Kidd’s marriage is safe, at least for now. It does seem like Chicago Fire will make a big deal out of Cruz and Chloe’s marital woes, which leaves the show very little time to tackle another rocky relationship without bringing down the overall tone of the first-responder procedural. Considering how the last two finales ended for Severide and Kidd, the writers should leave the couple on a good note, especially after what they have gone through since tying the knot.
Chicago Fire Season 12, Episode 10 Fixes Severide’s Character (& Makes A Kidd Split Way Less Likely)

When Chicago Fire season 12 picked up, it had already been several months since Severide was brought back to Firehouse 51. He and Kidd were civil, but it was clear that there was still tension between them, which made sense. There was no doubt that Severide was wrong for failing to communicate with his wife, especially since she was nothing but supportive of his endeavor. Unfortunately, Severide wasn’t exactly great with handling his personal matters, as well as, what was happening in Squad, in light of Cruz covering for him when he prioritized OFI over his actual job.
Interestingly, however, Chicago Fire season 12, episode 10 shows Severide and Cruz finally back on good terms. Meanwhile, Taylor Kinney’s character has been consistent with making amends to Kidd. Somehow, it seems like Firehouse 51’s old committed, and dependable Severide is back, which lessens the strain on his relationships in the show, including the one he has with his wife.

Chicago Fire season 12 has already had major departures, but considering the way Severide’s arc was shaping up at the start of the year, there were rumbles that Kinney was also on his way out. It didn’t help that showrunner Andrea Newman has teased that the Chicago Fire season 12 finale will feature a major Severide and Kidd development. With a separation highly unlikely, there’s only one clear potential step forward for the couple — to expand their family. Either they find out that Kidd is already pregnant or they consciously make the decision to have a kid.
