It is absolutely no surprise that NBC has renewed Chicago Fire for its 13th season. Now fans just want to know when they’ll be able to watch the season.
Despite the long wait for the 12th season, Chicago Fire has hit the top of the linear ratings for NBC week after week. One Chicago Wednesdays remains the trio of shows to beat, and so, it’s not surprising to see the renewal. We just love getting the good news, especially when it comes so early.
There is no reason to think that NBC will change the Wednesday night lineup. That means we’re looking at this series remaining in the middle slot between Chicago Med and Chicago PD, both of which have also been renewed for the 2024–2025 season.
So, when exactly will we get the season? NBC hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, but we have our suspicions.
Chicago Fire season 13 will probably premiere in fall 2024
Chicago Fire – Season 12
We’re looking at September 2024. Why would NBC take this series out of the fall lineup?
Okay, so NBC moved the show to January this TV season, but that wasn’t strategic for the safety of the series. This was due to the strike action that took place in summer 2023. The original plan was to bring back Chicago Fire, along with all the usual fall shows, back in September 2023.
With there being no reason right now for a delay, we can see NBC opting for a regular fall schedule. That means One Chicago back on Wednesdays in September. We’re looking at sometime around the middle to the end of September at the moment.
Eyes are on how long the season is going to be, though. While this season is now 13 episodes long because of the strike, it was originally going to be between 18 and 20 episodes. NBC is opting to reduce season lengths to save money.
We were also going to see some characters missing here and there, which has been the case in Fire this season with Severide missing for a while. However, with Kara Kilmer leaving the show, there is a chance that this has helped to reduce the budget to make sure all characters are around for the entire season next year.
