Weeks after Chicago Fire killed off Monica Pascal, the One Chicago show could see another major death, and this time it may be a member of Firehouse 51.
Who dies in Chicago Fire Season 13?
Eamonn Walker, who’s set to return as former Chief Wallace Boden in Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 18, “Post Mortem,” hinted at a major character’s death in an interview with Deadline in 2025.

While Boden didn’t reveal which character could be close to dying in the episode, he confirmed that it was a firefighter, which excludes paramedics Lizzie Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) and Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith.) “Somebody got left behind in a fire, and that somebody was a firefighter,” Walker said. “That is a no-no and should never, ever happen.”
Walker also confirmed that the character is someone who’s a fan favorite, which likely excludes Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) and Jack Damon (Michael Bradway), who joined in recent seasons. This narrows down the list of the firefighter in danger to: Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Mayo), Senior Firefighter Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg), Senior Firefighter Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte), firefighter Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso), firefighter Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) or firefighter Sam Carver (Jake Lockett).
“Because they were left behind, possibly by the end of this episode, we may lose them,” Walker continued. “It’s one of your favorites… You might even freak out.”
Walker also confirmed the possible death in an interview with TV Insider, hinting that the firefighter is someone Boden has worked with for a long time, which could exclude Ritter who joined in Season 7, and Carver, who joined in Season 11.
“For a majority of these people who are now officers, Boden’s taught them what they know,” he said. “So it’s different with the chief, but the chief is on the hook, and every officer in that house is on the hook, and nobody knows who’s going to be there by tomorrow morning. And let’s put it this way: If this person dies, a head will roll.”
Walker went on to add about how a Firehouse 51 death would affect Boden. “He is proud of the fact that he taught most of these people how to do the job, having gone through it himself. And so these are now officers,” he said. “They didn’t start off as officers, and so he’s already proud and everybody’s come up through the ranks and all the rest of it. He’s proud that they are where they are. But you have to take the rough with the smooth and taking responsibility for your actions and your choices is part of it. And so I know you know I will do my job if you are at fault and that person dies.”
As for which character could die (or come close to it), our money is on Severide. As one of the last remaining original characters (along with Mouch, Herrmann, and Cruz), Severide and Boden have a long working relationship and his death would for sure impact Chicago Fire fans. (Or as Walker says: a head will roll.)
Kinney, who has played Severide since Season 1, also sparked speculation he was leaving the show in Season 11 when he took an extended hiatus from the series before his return in Season 12. The death would also come after Chicago Fire killed off Monica Pascal, the wife of Chief Pascal, in a car accident episodes prior.
The only thing leading us to think Severide won’t be killed off is, that if he were to die, Chicago Fire likely would save his death for the Season 13 finale, given that he would be the show’s most major death so far. Considering that “Post-Mortem” is five episodes before the finale, it’s likely that Severide (or any character) would die, but they could come close. However, don’t take our word for it, as in the world of Dick Wolf, anything can still happen.
