Rome Flynn has addressed his shock early exit from Chicago Fire.
The actor made his debut as Jake Gibson in the procedural drama’s 12th season earlier this year, but his stint came to an abrupt end last week when his character left to receive help for his prescription pill addiction.
Addressing his exit from the NBC show after just six episodes, Flynn told Variety: “Just like all the fans, I was sad to see Gibson leave. He was a character I very much enjoyed playing”.
However, this might not be the last we see of Jake Gibson, as Flynn added: “I had a wonderful experience during my time on Chicago Fire and have great respect for the cast and crew and hope to team up with Dick Wolf again when the time is right.”
The How to Get Away With Murder star also took to Instagram to share a series of behind-the-scenes photos from his time on the show, captioning them: “Curtain call on Chicago Fire”.
Flynn’s departure comes shortly after Kara Killmer made her exit as Sylvie Brett after 10 years.
Sylvie’s exit came as she and fire captain Matt Casey (played by Jesse Spencer) moved to Portland for a fresh start after they tied the knot.
“It’s definitely been so humbling and aspirational to be playing a first responder for this long,” Killmer said after her final episode aired.
“I couldn’t be happier to have been in this story space, getting to work with real firefighters and paramedics this long. If you’re going to spend 10 years somewhere, you want to spend it in a place like our show, for sure.
“But yeah, I’m very excited to see what else is out there on the horizon. There’s a lot of interesting content that’s being created right now. And I’m very satisfied with where things end up for Sylvie on Fire.”
Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med air on NBC and Peacock in the US, and on Sky Witness in the UK.
