Chicago Med has cast Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD actor Luke Mitchell for a guest starring role in season 9.
Deadline reports that the actor, who previously starred in Home and Away, Neighbours, and Blindspot, will play an Emergency Department doctor named Mitch Ripley, who has a troubled past.
Beyond that, he’s got history with Dr Charles, although what that history is hasn’t been revealed at the current time.
He will first appear in the season’s 13 premiere episode, and it’s been said that there is scope for the role to be expanded to a series regular.
Like a lot of US network shows, the upcoming season of Chicago Med will be 13 episodes long as opposed to the usual 22 due to the writers and actors strike that took place in Hollywood earlier this year.
In other Chicago franchise news, it was announced back in October that Tracy Spiridakos will be departing Chicago PD in the upcoming season 11. She had been playing Detective Hailey Upton-Halstead since season 4.
More recently, it was announced that Kara Killmer, who has played Sylvie Brett in almost 200 episodes since the third season back in 2014, will be leaving Chicago Fire in its upcoming 12th season.
But Lieutenant Kelly Severide actor Taylor Kinney will be back in the upcoming season of Fire, so it’s not all bad.
Speaking about the renewal of the Chicago shows and the Law & Order franchise shows, super producer Dick Wolf said: “I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC. All six shows [including Law & Order] being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers and writers.
“I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”
