Mekia Cox has joined the cast of Chicago Med as the daughter of Oliver Platt’s Dr. Charles, EW has learned.
The 90210 alum will play Robin Charles, a epidemiologist who is brought in to assess a difficult case, and it will further complicate her already strained relationship with her father, whom she followed into the medical profession.
“We’ll get a bigger insight into his past few years, with his own personal demons that he’s hinted about,” EP Diane Frolov tells EW of Charles’ journey this season. “We’ll meet his youngest daughter, who is eight years old, and we’ll meet his elder daughter, who’s 25, from his first marriage.”
Adds EP Andrew Schneider: “She is actually going to start working at the hospital as an epidemiologist, and there’s some strains in that relationship, which will reveal a lot about his past and who he is.”
Cox, whose credits also include Secrets & Lies and Undercovers, will recur in season 2.
Chicago Med returns Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
