There is some bad news for fans regarding Dominic Rains and his future at Chicago Med. As per a Deadline report, Rains is exiting the drama, after playing Dr. Crockett Marcel for five seasons.
With that being said, while the Season 9 finale did set up his exit, it also left a door open for a return. So, what comes next for Dominic Rains and Chicago Med?
Chicago Med – Dr. Crockett Marcel Is On A Leave
As Chicago Med fans know, Marcel was told he needed to take a leave of absence due to the traumatic deaths he witnessed from some patients. During the Season 9 finale, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) told the doctor to take time off after the death of two patients, a boy and his father.
It’s hard not for fans to speculate that Rains could return at some point. After all, “a leave” in itself almost implies “see you soon” versus “see you never”. Still, this doesn’t necessarily mean a return to could occur. Only time will tell.
One Chicago Franchise Going Through Changes
Marcel was introduced as an emergency room surgeon at the beginning of Season 5, and Rains began as a recurring character who was promoted to a show regular afterwards. He also participated in in One Chicago crossovers.
His departure isn’t the only “change” at Chicago med as showrunners Andy Schneider and Diane Frolov are leaving the series after nine years. Allen MacDonald will be replacing them.
In addition, Rains isn’t the only One Chicago actor that has exited as of late. It does seem like each show within the franchise is going through massive changes.
After all, Eammon Walker, who played Fire Chief Wallace Boden, left Chicago Fire during the Season 12 finale, while Tracy Spiridakos (Hailey Upton) left Chicago PD as Season 11 came to close.
