Chicago Med Loses Major Star After Five Seasons

The cast of Chicago Med is getting a new shakeup. After serving as a series regular for five seasons, Dominic Rains is leaving the show.

Per Deadline, Rains is exiting Chicago Med following the Season 9 finale. While it’s possible he could appear in a guest role in Season 10, possibly to give the character a send-off, it’s not yet clear if the actor will return in any way. Rains has been playing the role of Dr. Crockett Marcel since Season 5 of the NBC medical drama series.Split Images of Bekker, Halstead, and Rhodes Chicago Med

Chicago Med is teeming with heartbreaking moments, but the premiere of Season 5 was particularly sad. But why was this episode so gut-wrenching?

Dr. Marcel’s exit was alluded to in the Season 9 finale. Following the passing of a young boy due to Crockett canceling his liver transplant surgery, his father died by suicide because of the grief. This left Crockett consumed with guilt and reminded of losing his own daughter to leukemia. He was told by S. Epatha Merkerson’s Sharon Goodwin to take as much time away as he needs to cope, and it may come to be that the doctor chose not to return at all.

A Change in Showrunners Happened at Chicago Med

Also behind the scenes at Chicago Med will be another change. Co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider have stepped down with Allen MacDonald replacing them starting with Season 10. Frolov and Schneider had been with the show for nine years.
