‘Chicago Med’ Season 10 Images Unleash Chaos on the ER

There are a few things one can count on happening at the ER — there will always be someone in need of help, and the situation is usually dire. Both will be dialed up when Chicago Med returns for Season 10 later this month. A mass casualty event plus a diversion of patient traffic finds Gaffney dealing with more patients than it’s used to. New images from the season premiere, titled “Sink or Swim,” preview this situation. The images also tease the arrival of new characters while older characters deal with arcs from the previous season.

When the season premieres, there will be no time to waste because two marine vessels collide, causing a mass casualty event. Meanwhile, an underfunded hospital closes down, and Gaffney absorbs all the patients who would have gone there. The images capture the chaos in the ER when these things happen. They demand all hands on deck, leading Dr. Goodwin to scrub in and help. Naomi is also back and is seen in the photos attending to the patients, and Dr. Hudgins and Dr. Goodwin can be seen trying to resuscitate a patient.

The new images feature Dr. John Frost, a pediatrician who joins the team from the closed-down hospital. In all the chaos, he seems to be the only one approaching this calmly as he speaks to a young patient. It was revealed that he “is very charming, loves children, and knows how to talk to them,” something perfectly captured in the images. However, he has a different approach to treating children, believing “that even a young child should understand what is going on with his body and be involved in those decisions.” This might not make him popular with parents who want to control every aspect of their children’s healthcare. Dr. Frost “gets to know Maggie Lockwood and develops some relationships with the staff there,” per showrunner Allen McDonald.

The other new face is that of Dr. Caitlin Lennox, who was first revealed in the teaser. Dr. Lennox is not your typical doctor, as she uses unorthodox means to get the job done. This puts her and Dr. Archer at odds because he’s a stickler for rules, protocol, and hierarchy. “Dr. Lenox very quickly does what she can to assume control of a lot of aspects of the ED, which Dr. Archer is not pleased about,” McDonald said about the character.

Under familiar faces, Hannah and Ripley are captured in some weird interactions. Dr. Ripley is still on the hook for Pawel’s assault, and given his dark past, Hannah has reason to proceed with caution. Whether Ripley comes clean about what happened remains to be seen. Luke Mitchell had previously warned that the character might not be the good guy everyone wants him to be, saying,

“The audience will also be faced with the question, is Ripley a good guy? What is Ripley capable of? That’s really a question of how much has he changed? Is he still this person from this troubled youth, with impulse control disorder? Or is he a new man?”

Watch the Chicago Med Season 10 premiere on September 25.
