The One Chicago franchise is losing cast members left and right, and one of Chicago Med’s stars might join the departed in season 11. NBC’s medical drama has seen many character exits throughout its 11-season run. Change is the nature of the show, especially one as long as Chicago Med (which will reach its 200th episode at the beginning of season 11).
Viewers have had to say goodbye to many beloved Chicago Med characters. From Colin Donnell’s Conner Rhodes to Yaya DaCosta’s April Sexton, the makeup of the TV series’ cast isn’t what it used to be. Now, fans must also bid farewell to Marlyne Barrett’s Maggie Lockwood in season 11, and perhaps to another doctor, based on new information concerning the upcoming episodes.
Caitlin Lenox’s Chicago Med Exit Is Inevitable
Lenox Has A Fatal Disease
As many recall, Chicago Med season 10 ended with Caitlin Lenox receiving horrible news. She tested positive for Prion’s Disease, which her mother had. Lenox lied to her brother and claimed she was negative, but at the hour’s conclusion, viewers saw her break down over the bad news. While speaking with TV Insider, Sarah Ramos teased her character’s future. She said:
“The story the writers are telling is what does it mean to live knowing you have a fatal disease that could strike at any time. Lenox, who’s on the autism scale, would want to help as many people as she can with the time she has while experimenting with being alive.”
There is no way around it — Lenox’s illness is fatal. She will die, it’s just a matter of how long she survives and what she will do with her remaining time. As Ramos stated, Lenox could die at any time. It’s wholly possible that she will succumb to the disease in Chicago Med season 11, resulting in yet another character exit.
The good news is that Lenox likely won’t die at the beginning of Chicago Med season 11. She has to “experiment with being alive” and help as many people as possible before her time is up. Those aren’t things she can do within the span of one episode. If Lenox is to die, it probably won’t happen until season 11’s second half.
How Losing Lenox Would Impact Chicago Med
Gaffney Would Need To Replace Her
Lenox only just started working at Gaffney Chicago Medical Hospital during the Chicago Med season 10 premiere, but she has already made her mark. Ramos’ character is a force to be reckoned with in the hospital’s emergency department. And there’s no one better to lead the ED than Lenox. So, if she leaves, there will be big shoes to fill.
Sharon Goodwin and co. would need to find someone to replace Lenox. Perhaps Dean Archer could step back into the role, or Gaffney could recruit someone from outside the hospital like they did with Lenox. Whatever the case, Lenox’s death would be tragic and leave a big hole in the Chicago Med cast.
Chicago Med season 11 premieres on Wednesday, October 1, at 8 pm ET on NBC.
