Chicago Med Season 9 BTS Photo Shows Reunion Of Two Original Cast Members

A major Chicago Med reunion has taken place behind the scenes. The show, which is currently airing season 9, is a medical procedural drama co-created by Dick Wolf as part of his interlinked One Chicago franchise following various public services around the iconic Illinois city. It follows the lives of the staff of the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, boasting a robust ensemble cast that, after a major season 8 exodus, currently includes S. Epatha Merkerson, Oliver Platt, Marlyne Barrett, Dominic Rains, Jessy Schram, and Steven Weber.

On his official Instagram account, former star Brian Tee shared a post from the set of an episode of Chicago Med season 9. Check it out below:

Tee, who is directing an episode of the current season, shared an image of himself and his former co-star Colin Donnell reuniting on set. The caption teases “guess who made a surprise visit,” saying, “Great to see you old friend” and calling the pair “the OG Docs.”

Brian Tee & Colin Donnell’s Chicago Med Exits Explained

Colin Donnell as Conner Rhodes from Chicago Med

While it is unclear if either actor will be appearing onscreen during the upcoming episode, this Chicago Med cast reunion is a long time coming. Donnell, who played Dr. Connor Rhodes on the show, was part of the main cast for the first four seasons. The star reportedly left the show due to creative differences, which resulted in his character leaving Chicago during the season 5 premiere after his father was murdered by his ex-girlfriend, who then died by suicide.

Tee stuck around for longer on the show, continuing to play his character Dr. Ethan Choi until season 8. The stated reason for his exit was so the actor could have the opportunity to spend more time with his family and pursue other projects, including directing jobs like the one from which he shared this post. His departure from the show coincided with the departure of Nick Gehlfuss (Dr. Will Halstead), Yaya DaCosta (Nurse April Sexton), and Torrey DeVitto (Dr. Natalie Manning).

It remains to be seen if either star will return to the show at any other point during the current season or the upcoming Chicago Med season 10, which has already been officially renewed. However, the fact that both stars have returned to set in any capacity is a sign that their exits may not be entirely permanent. At the very least, Tee may be open to returning in a directorial capacity.
