Dr. Hannah Asher has had one of the more fascinating arcs over the course of Chicago Med. The character fell victim to a drug addiction earlier in the show, and was seemingly written off for good before returning in season 7.
Dr. Asher has really served as an anchor at Gaffney Medical Center, while so many of the characters around have either suffered personal tragedies and/or decided to leave for a fresh start elsewhere. It is hard to imagine the show without her, which is really saying something given how brief her initial stint was.
Jessy Schram confirmed that Asher’s addiction resurfaces
That being said, the character is not out of the woods yet. Despite being able to curtail her addictions over the last couple seasons, Dr. Asher will go through some rough patches in the upcoming season. At least, according to the actress who plays her.
Jessy Schram recently spoke with TV Line about Chicago Med‘s tenth season, and she revealed that it will be a particularly difficult one for Dr. Asher. The stress she experiences at Gaffney will take its toll on the talented Obstetrician, and force her to come to terms with her addictive tendencies. “I think we’ll be seeing how Hannah’s sobriety is going,” she explained, before elaborating:
“When you’re an addict, you’re always an addict, and I think that we’ll see how Hannah keeps things in line the way that she does.”
The character’s relationship with Ripley will also be explored
This isn’t the only thing Dr. Asher will have to contend with in season 10. The character will also have to navigate the fallout of the bizarre Dr. Ripley (Luke Mitchell) situation that ended season 9. It was a lot for Asher in the moment, and something she will have to unpack moving forward.
“We’ll see if that’s going somewhere good, or if it’s a little too rocky for them,” Schram asserted. “We’ll see how they affect each other.” In short, Asher fans are going to be more than satisfied with Chicago Med when it returns in September!
