Dr. Ethan Choi really went out on a high note. He married the love of his life, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), and started a private medical practice with her in season 8. It was a terrific sendoff for a character who’d really been put through the ringer, physically and emotionally, in the seasons prior.
The actor who plays Choi, Brian Tee, has continued to be a vital part of the One Chicago franchise. He’s directed two Chicago Med episodes since his character was written off the show, which has kept the notion alive in the minds of fans that he would eventually go back in front of the camera.
Brian Tee wants to reprise his Med character
A recent interview with TV Line suggests that it might happen sooner than later.
Brian Tee was asked whether he would reprise the character of Dr. Choi on future Med episodes, and the actor was surprisingly forthright with details. The bottom line? He’s very much down. “We’ll always start that conversation,” he told the outlet. “If the right time or the right storyline comes along, maybe it might happen. So it’s kind of one of those things that you never say goodbye to.”
It was encouraging to hear that Tee is open to the idea of returning, but the most exciting part of the interview was that he had specific ideas on how Dr. Choi could be brought back into the fold.
Tee spitballed a story where OG Med characters return
He felt like the character could rejoin Gaffney in the event of a very serious medical event:
“I think probably the hospital needs help. Some kind of tragedy is about to happen, some kind of major catastrophe drama. And maybe they bring back myself and Will Halstead and April.”
Sign us up. Tee not only presented a way to bring his character back, but other veterans like April and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).
There’s a give-and-take, of course, in that Med is trying to establish a new crop of characters to keep the show going strong, but it would be undeniably exciting to see these veterans return for one last emergency. Maybe Tee could even direct it.
