Another character has left Chicago Med. Season 10 Episode 4, titled “Blurred Lines,” saw the departure of Sean Archer, played by Luigi Sottile. After three seasons on the show, Dean Archer’s son Sean has said his farewell.
Why Did Sean Archer Leave Chicago Med?
Dean’s girlfriend Margo fired Sean from the rehab center he worked at as a recovery coach after he had become “combative with patients.” Margo tells Dean, “My patients, they don’t need lectures – they need understanding.” Dean worries about how the firing will impact Sean and his sobriety.
Dean reaches out to talk to Sean, but when his messages go unanswered, he goes to Sean’s house and finds him packing, ready to leave town. Sean says he’s moving to Florida to live with his mom and have a much-needed “fresh start.”
While surprised by the turn of events, Sean supports his son’s decision and says he’ll take a road trip with him to help Sean get settled, showing how much personal growth he’s had over the course of the show.
In a September 25 interview with Parade, showrunner Allen MacDonald gave some hints about Season 10. He teased, “We are going to see Sean again and we are going to see Margo, and there will be some further issues involving Sean that will cause a little bit of a rift between Margo and Archer, but beyond that I don’t want to say more.”
Sottile’s departure follows Dominic Rains as Dr. Crockett Marcel, Alet Taylor as Liliana Wapniarski, and Conor Perkins as Dr. Zach Hudgins.
In a Reddit discussion about the episode, some fans were sad to see the character leave. “Sean don’t leave please,” one pleaded. Others commented, “Pack? Sean? WTF? Nooooo,” and “SEAN NO. Stay please.”
Other Chicago Med fans, however, felt like it was the right move. “Sean was antagonizing patients, which creates a potentially unsafe environment,” one Reddit user said. “And he agreed that Margo made the right call.”
Another fan noted, “Glad he’s leaving, actually. I don’t think we could have explored more of his story. When they mentioned the road trip, I thought about the ER episodes with Mark and his dad (Btw I wonder if that means that Archer won’t be in next week episode). It was good to see Archer worried about his son, he definitely changed so much. Not sure about his future with Margo.”
Currently, Sottile is in the movie All Happy Families, starring How I Met Your Mother alum Josh Radnor. In a September 4, 2024 Instagram post, the actor shared his excitement over his first movie role. “I’m excited to announce that ALL HAPPY FAMILIES is coming out to Select Theaters on September 20 and available to buy or rent on all cable, satellite, and digital platforms October 18… This is the first film I’ve acted in! I play Aaron. He’s a chef. The director and writer @haroularose made this such a fun and cool process and I can’t wait for all of you to enjoy this wonderful film… Support Indie Films!”
