Chicago P.D.’s Marina Squerciati Literally Caught on Fire While Filming — and Lived to Joke About It md18

‘I regret to inform you that Stellaride did NOT come to my rescue…’ she lamented.

Key Points

  • Marina Squerciati accidentally caught her coat on fire while filming ‘Chicago P.D.’ in freezing weather.
  • She described the incident with humor on social media, worrying fans.
  • The mishap appeared to occur during filming for the upcoming One Chicago crossover event.

Marina Squerciati may typically be the one coming to the rescue, but she recently found herself in the face of danger in a behind-the-scenes incident that could have ended in disaster.

The beloved actress was struggling to keep warm on a frigid day filming her hit series Chicago P.D., spending a little too much time next to a space heater when she accidentally lit herself on fire.

Squerciati admitted the mistake on social media, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo of herself and her newest colleague, Arienne Mandi, who plays newcomer Eva Imani, huddling up outside of a propane-powered heat source as they paused from filming on a chilly Chicago winter day.

A layer of dirty snow covered the ground, and a crew member in the background of the photo could be seen all bundled up in several layers with a scarf covering most of his face, proving just how cold it was outside.

The women, however, were in costume, wearing simple puffer coats under their police vests and just a pair of gloves, with no hoods, hats, or scarves in sight.

Squerciati stood in front of the heater, crouching to get maximal impact from the warm air, and shot a saddened look to the camera over her current situation.

It’s unclear if the photo was taken before or after her “coat caught on FIRE because [she] got too close to the heater.”

No word on the extent of the damage, and we didn’t get a snapshot of whoever inevitably came to her rescue, but she did add, “I regret to inform you that Stellride did NOT come to my rescue…”

Co-star LaRoyce Hawkins joined in on the fun, riling up their sister series’ stars Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo when he replied, “#StellaRide is never on time 🤨.”

Fans appreciated her humor in dealing with what was surely a startling, if not scary, situation, with one tapping into it, too, when they commented, “THIS GIRL IS ON FIREEEEEEE.”

Fans Expressed Concern for the Actress’ Safety in the Cold Weather

Mostly, though, they just wanted to make sure she stays safe moving forward.

“Your comments always crack me up,” someone applauded. “Stay warm, just not /that/ warm that you actually catch on fire. 😅.”

“Oh no!!! Stay safe and warm chica. ❤️❤️❤️🧯🧯🧯🧯,” another commented, with several others agreeing, “Stay warm out there! 🧊 🔥.”

The Damage May Have Been Done on the Set of This Year’s One Chicago Crossover

Based on Squerciati’s hashtags, it seems like this all may have gone down while the One Chicago shows were filming for their upcoming March crossover event.

Not much is known yet about the plot, beyond the official logline, which reads, “Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency. Their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy.”

While you can probably expect to see most of your favorites in this year’s major, three-part event, one beloved actor’s hiatus from Chicago Fire may prevent his appearance.
