Chicago P.D. Season 13, Episode 1 ‘Consequences’ introduces just that to a show—and a unit—that rarely gets to face those, especially for a prolonged period of time. With the unit disbanded and yet another change in the makeup of the team, where does Intelligence go next? And what does the next step look like for a Hank Voight that has been hanging on by a thread for what feels like a while?
Season 13 starts to set that up exactly, with the introduction of yet another new character, Arienne Mandi’s Officer Eva Imani. And as much as we want to not like her, she is not just a breath of fresh air, but the type of character that both complements Voight and challenges him—in a good way. She might just fit in on this team. And despite our best intentions to remain detached, we might just like her. A lot.
What else is going on in the hour? Here are some teases about the Chicago P.D. Season 13 premiere:
- There are no Burzek crumbs to be found here. No, this is more like a meal. And this isn’t even like a Kim or Adam-focused episode.
- But they both get a fair bit to do, separately from each other.
- As expected, though, this is a Voight-heavy hour. And an Eva Imani heavy hour in her intro episode. Surprisingly, it works.
- There are more team vibes here than in most episodes where the team is working together, ironic, isn’t it?
- I miss Kiana Cook, not gonna lie. But I guess I can also see how this new team could work. Can work.
- We do get an explanation regarding Kiana, one that makes sense even. It won’t stop annoying me, though.
- I continue to find this Voight more interesting than the Voight from a few seasons ago, who liked to pretend he had the moral high ground. Who would have thought?
- Torres doesn’t get much to do this episode, but I’m glad he’s sticking around. He remains a very interesting character to me when they let him do things.
- I wish they gave Trudy more to do, but I like it when the show remembers that Trudy is part of this team.
- Did the show hit it out of the park with Eva Imani’s intro? The answer might just be yes. I already want more of her. Especially with Kim. And with Voight, too. Is this me interested in Chicago P.D.? What’s going on?
