Intelligence Unit is in a lot of trouble in the upcoming season of Chicago P.D., following the death of Deputy Chief Reid (Shawn Hatosy) after Voight (Jason Beghe) orchestrated a plan to take him out. The steadfast leader has always been for the unit and would do anything to protect them, but his actions have at times brought them more trouble. Could the show be looking to replace him with a younger, more savvy alternative? Recent casting hints at a Voight-like replacement as Eva Imani (Arienne Mandi) joins Intelligence from the ATF, and she has her way of doing things. “Imani is tough, rebellious, and not necessarily a team player,” Mandi said in a recent interview while describing her character. Sounds a lot like Voight, something Beghe agreed with.
“[Imani’s] almost like a young female version of Voight,” Beghe said. However, even if they are quite similar, this does not stop them from being effective officers together. “Though we don’t see eye-to-eye, we have a common goal: catching the bad guy, even if we have to cross the line,” Mandi added. A sneak peek of the upcoming season previews the character who is dropped in the middle of the unit and shakes up their dynamics. “She comes in hot. . . . . And it’s great because she’s coming in without any prior knowledge of Voight, so she’s not intimidated by him. She’s not this green, brand-new cop. She’s been around and is able to be very honest with Voight right off the bat. We see her speak to him like he’s anybody else on the street,” showrunner Gwen Sigan said while introducing the character. Will she become an asset to the unit and Voight?
Intelligence Unit Members Are In Crisis in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 13

The show picks up a month after the events of Season 12, and people are not doing well. With the unit disbanded, Voight is in another unit while other members have been benched, but Voight is working on getting their credentials reinstated. For some, like Burgess (Marina Squerciati), the loss is extra painful because she’d only just gotten her detective badge. For Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), there is no purpose, and he’s trying to hold on. But above all, Voight believes that his unit is a net positive for the city. Trying to rebuild the unit “gives him a purpose,” said Beghe. “He sincerely believes that his team will make the city a safer place.” Will Voight succeed in getting the team another chance? What will he have to give up?
