Chicago P.D. continues its twelfth season, fans have noticed a shift in the way Sergeant Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe, approaches his leadership and decision-making. Known for his tough, sometimes brutal tactics, Voight has been a controversial figure throughout the series. However, according to Beghe, Voight has no choice but to “evolve” in Season 12 if he wants to keep leading his team effectively.

A New Era for Voight

In a recent interview, Beghe opened up about the changes in Voight’s character and why evolution is necessary. “Voight has always been someone who believes in getting results, no matter the cost,” Beghe explained. “But times are changing, and so is the way policing works. If Voight doesn’t adapt, he risks losing everything he’s built.” Over the years, Voight’s unorthodox methods have put him at odds with both his superiors and his own team. In earlier seasons, he operated in a gray area of the law, bending the rules—or breaking them outright—when he deemed it necessary. But as the show has evolved, so has the conversation around law enforcement tactics, both in fiction and reality.

Balancing Power and Morality

Season 12 has introduced new challenges that force Voight to reconsider his ways. With shifting dynamics within the Intelligence Unit and increasing scrutiny from higher-ups, he has to find a way to maintain control while proving that he can lead with accountability. “We’re seeing a more reflective Voight this season,” Beghe noted. “He’s still as intense and committed as ever, but he’s also aware that the old ways might not always work anymore.” This internal conflict adds another layer to his character, showing that even the most hardened leaders must adapt to survive.

How Will Voight Change?

While Voight isn’t likely to completely abandon his tough persona, fans can expect him to navigate situations with a bit more restraint. His interactions with his team—especially with newer members—highlight his willingness to mentor and guide rather than intimidate. Despite this evolution, Beghe reassures viewers that Voight will remain the core of Chicago P.D.. “He’s not going soft,” he clarified. “He’s just learning when to push and when to pull back. That’s what makes him such a compelling character—he’s always growing, even when he fights it.” As Chicago P.D. Season 12 unfolds, fans will have to see just how much Voight is willing to change—and whether his evolution will ultimately strengthen or weaken his grip on the Intelligence Unit.
