The Chicago PD cast tried to take a serious holiday card photo and failed miserable. Marina Squerciati shared the hilarious bloopers on Instagram.
We are used to seeing the Intelligence Unit miserable, brooding about something, or raging against the machine.
Usually, if the cast of Chicago PD is standing together outside in the Windy City, it means they are staring at a crime scene, chasing a suspect through the mud, or getting yelled at by Hank Voight. Smiles are not exactly in the budget for one of the grittiest shows on television today.
But thanks to Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess), fans finally got a glimpse of what happens when the cameras stop rolling and the holiday spirit actually kicks in.
In a December 18 update to her Instagram page, Squerciati revealed that the cast attempted to take a wholesome, traditional “family” holiday greeting card.
The result was a total disaster in the best possible way.
Squerciati was joined by some of the core squad, LaRoyce Hawkins (Atwater), Patrick John Flueger (Ruzek), Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Torres), and the newest addition Arienne Mandi (Cook). Instead of a polished promo shot, the carousel of photos shows a group that simply cannot keep it together.
In every single frame, someone is ruining the shot in one way or another. It seemed that half the group either got caught mid-blink, or looking away, it is very clear that “serious mode” was turned off for the afternoon.

This is the kind of content One Chicago fans crave, because let’s face it, PD can get down right brutal and dark. Between the tension in the unit and the high-stakes cases, we rarely get to see the squad just hang out and enjoy each other. Maybe the show should take something from real life, and let the cast have a good day episode. A family BBQ or something would be nice.
These bloopers prove that despite the dark tone of the show, the chemistry between the actors is as strong as ever. It also confirms that Arienne Mandi has fit right into the chaotic energy of the group since joining the cast.
The Intelligence Unit might be the Grinches of the One Chicago universe when the show airs on Wednesday nights, but in real life, they are clearly having more fun than anyone else. And you love to see it.
We still don’t have a perfect holiday card from the 21st District, but honestly, these bloopers are better than any staged photo could ever be.
Chicago PD season 13 resumes Wednesday, January 7 at 10/9c.
