Chicago P.D. Stars Tracy Spiridakos & Jesse Lee Soffer Adopt Rescue Puppy — Meet Sweet Cali! md18

The duo adopted an at-risk pup — and she’s just the cutest.

It’s hard to tell what fans are more excited about: the return of Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer to the Chicago P.D. set or the adorable new friend the duo just introduced to the world.

In a February 23 Instagram post, Spiridakos gave fans the first glimpse at little Cali, the at-risk Rottweiler puppy they just adopted. In the carousel, Cali — wearing a cone due to her recent surgery — can be seen snuggling with both of the One Chicago fan favorites. The photos are too cute, but the story behind Cali’s adoption is even sweeter.

Spiridakos explained the circumstances in her Instagram caption.

“You guys, this is Cali 🙂 She was surrendered to a city shelter in California by her owner with a degloving injury, (when the skin is separated from the jaw bone) and was listed as an at risk pup,” Spiridakos wrote. “When my wonderful friend @kingaphilipps told us about her, Jesse and I knew right away we were adopting her.”

Spiridakos and Soffer arranged for the pup to undergo surgery, and before Cali knew it, the little one was in a new home. After giving a much-deserved shout-out to Ash Tree Ranch Rescue, Spiridakos finished the caption with a simple, “Cali, welcome to the family baby girl ❤️🐾.”

Cali’s adoption came more than one year after the passing of Spiridakos’ dog, Nala, whom she had for over a decade.

In a January 20, 2025 Instagram post, Spiridakos announced that Nala had died a week earlier. The social media post included a lengthy photo carousel, and of course, some beautiful words written by the 36-year-old.

“Last week we had to say goodbye to our beloved Nala,” Spiridakos wrote. “We are gutted. I can’t even begin to tell you how special she was. She has been my companion for over 12 years, my best friend and the highlight of every day I was fortunate enough to spend with her. There will never be another Nala. I will forever be grateful to have been loved by her. ❤️”

The actress recently reprised her role on Chicago P.D. as Detective Hailey Upton (after portraying the character to life for eight seasons), and judging by the adventures Spiridakos and Nala went on over the years, it’s safe to say that Cali found her forever family.

When do new episodes of Chicago P.D. come out?
