If you’re a fan of NBC’s Chicago franchise who stays up to date by watching on Peacock, you’re about to be faced with a rather steep price increase before the new seasons arrive this fall. After a successful summer of event programming that helped raise the platform’s profile, as well as the incoming rush of the NBA season, the NBCUniversal streamer has announced subscription price hikes.
Going into effect on July 23 for new subscribers, and on Aug. 22 for current subscribers, Peacock’s ad-supported and ad-free tiers are rising in cost by $3 each. Peacock Premium, which is the ad-supported tier, now costs $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year, and the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus will now run you $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year.
There’s a silver lining, though, for viewers who aren’t willing to pay the newly raised prices of the ad-supported and ad-free tiers. The streamer has introduced the new Peacock Select tier, which is an ad-supported tier that excludes Peacock original titles but includes “TV favorites from NBC, Bravo, and more,” according to the website. Some selected library titles will also be available.
The Peacock Select plan is the least expensive option at $7.99 per month and $79.99 per year, though the content options are much more limited than the other two plans and there are also ads. It’s really up to each individual viewer which Peacock subscription plan is right for them, based on their content needs and whether you’re willing to sit through some ads for a lower cost.
Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD fans will more than likely still be able to enjoy new episodes of each show on Peacock the day after airing on NBC with the Peacock Select plan, so if these shows are the sole reason you’re subscribed to the streamer, that might be the best bet for you. However, Peacock hasn’t revealed exactly what will be available on that new plan.
Still, if you’re someone who wants more than the limited amount of content the basic plan provides, then it’s going to cost you more to watch the Chicago franchise on Peacock this fall. Not to mention, if you want to watch your Chicago shows uninterrupted, the Premium Plus plan will ask your wallet for a little bit more money. Unfortunately, it’s all part of the give and take of the streaming world.
Chicago Fire season 14, Chicago PD season 13, and Chicago Med season 11 return to NBC’s Wednesday night lineup this fall.
