One Clarkson’s Farm star was forced to defend the choice to have their beloved pig, Baroness, put down with the vet after a fan blasted them as “spineless”.
The folks down at Diddly Squat Farm may take criticism on the chin but when it comes to their animals it’s a different story.
The third season of Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime show Clarkson’s Farm returned to screens last month and it was certainly an emotional one.
From the loss of earnings to poor weather and another battle with the council, the farm had its fair share of slip-ups – but one moment that got everyone sobbing – including Jeremy – was when the farm had to have Baroness the pig put down when she fell ill.
After getting over the tragic loss, Jeremy and his partner Lisa Hogan welcomed a new family of piglets onto Diddly Squat Farm and the Irish native took to Instagram to give fans an update on how they’re getting on.
In a joint Instagram post shared to both Lisa’s account (@thetallirish) and Diddy Squat Farmshop’s account (diddlysquat.farmshop), a sweet video was uploaded of the growing piglets.
The tiny black and tanned piglets could be seen playfully running around the grounds as Lisa said: “This little piggy and this little piggy, didn’t go to the market.
“They are here at [Fenns Wood] fattening up to breed which is really good news,” Lisa excitedly gushed, as she added: “And they’re absolutely gorgeous and very happy here.”
She captioned the video: “Diddly Piggies.”
While the post was inundated with hundreds of fans commenting on how adorable the piglets were, one user left a not-so-positive message.
The fan, who goes by the handle @duckdad_, wrote: “Letting Baroness die with the vet was heartless though. Lost my wife as a fan with that decision.”
Another user @vssaviation jumped to the farm’s defence, pointing out: “Putting an animal out of its misery is always the morally correct choice… no need to have it suffer needlessly.”
To which @duckdad_ replied: “Yes. Not the issue. Leaving it and not having the courage to be with the animal is the problem. Farm life isn’t easy. Leaving it and walking away is spineless.”
The ruthless opinion prompted the Diddly Squat Farm Shop account to clap back: “Baroness has a cancerous growth pushing against her lung. Without Amazon paying for an autopsy, we, like most farmers, would never have known.”
It’s not clear who was behind the comment posed from the farm shop’s account.
