It’s been a whirlwind week for fans of Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless when it was officially confirmed, that Billy Flynn is playing the recast Cane Ashby on the CBS daytime drama series, while Conner Floyd has departed the top-rated soap as Phillip “Chance” Chancellor IV and is now taping episodes of Days of our Lives as Flynn’s former Salem role as Chad DiMera.
To make the switcheroo all the more intriguing, on Tuesday’s June 24th episode of Y&R, Cane just asked “Chance” to help watch his back as someone is going to murder him by the end of the week! Thus, the two are currently sharing scenes together, but for how long? Stay tuned.
As the story goes, Flynn announced his departure in the role of Chad DiMera, a part he had played for the past 11 years back in March of this year and that he was heading to Y&R. Meanwhile, DAYS was looking for his replacement and went with Floyd, who had been playing Y&R’s “Chance” on and off since 2021.
Since DAYS tapes nine months ahead of streaming its all-new episodes on Peacock, Billy will continue to be seen into the beginning of 2026 as DAYS Chad, while also appearing at the same time as Y&R’s Cane. As for Conner Floyd, now that he started taping on Monday, June 23rd at the Burbank Studios where Days of our Lives is filmed, according to PEOPLE, his actual first episode as Chad will stream on April 21, 2026.
Last night, Billy Flynn took part in a livestream interview on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel, where he opened up about his new role, his co-stars, the storyline and leaving DAYS Chad DiMera behind.
When sharing his thoughts on Conner Floyd as his successor in the role of Chad, Billy expressed, “I don’t think it could have been a better person. I really, really like Conner. I think, we eerily sound similar, you know? I saw him in the halls one day (at Y&R), and the first time I met him I said, “I hear congratulations are in order.” I just wanted to break the tension right away.”
Saying goodbye to a part you have played for 11 years must be hard to let go of, but Flynn had other thoughts. No, it’s not hard to let Chad go, especially when it’s somebody as good of a guy as Conner taking it over,” shared Billy. “We talked a lot leading up to it. These parts aren’t ours. I gave Chad everything and Chad gave me everything. It’s like being in a play. Now, it’s time for somebody else to take it over, and he is going to take it to the next level. I think Conner is going to do amazing.”
Being a recast now twice-over in his soap career, Flynn reflect on first taking over DAYS Chad from actor Casey Deidrick, and then taking on the role of Cane, following Daniel Goddard’s (now Professor Henry Dalton, GH) run in the role. Billy said in jest, “When I took over Chad, the person was taller and more handsome. When I took over Cane, I was shorter and not Australian, and now according to some, less handsome and I might agree with you. And now, the guy taking my last part is taller and more handsome than me. So, Chad just got a lot more beautiful.”
