The ‘Ransom Canyon’ series, created by April Blair, was recently released on Netflix and is trending. This series features Minka Kelly as Quinn O’Grady and Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland. Their chemistry is strong and full of tension.
‘Ransom Canyon’ is a romantic drama series about a rancher named Staten Kirkland. He lost his wife to an illness, and his son died in a car accident. After a year of losing his son, he is trying to figure out how to deal with his grief and struggles. Dance hall owner Quinn O’Grady helps him through this journey. This takes place in a small town in Texas, with themes of family, love, and land.
Highs
The main highlight is the compelling portrayals of each character. Duhamel as Staten was full of emotion and struggle. His character had to figure out how to live again after his son and wife died; this was a tragic death. The role he played was strong and compelling; he showed the true heartbreak he faced.
The scenery of Texas was authentic and showed the culture behind being a rancher. The Western culture in Texas was beautiful, with horses and gorgeous landscapes. This captures the storyline perfectly. The romantic connection between Staten and Quinn is undeniable. It has a slow-burning aspect that’s forbidden because Quinn was his wife’s best friend. Their friendship is also strong and full of genuine care for one another.
Another high is Cap Fuller (James Brolin), who is a grumpy old rancher. But he has a soft heart deep down that is hard to see. He creates this bond with a new rancher who helps him take care of his land, Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher). Their bond becomes strong and wholesome.
The last high is that this series is full of wholesomeness and heartfelt moments. It has a deep story that shows there is light at the end of the tunnel when grief hits. It reveals the depth behind the story and captures its true meaning. The last high is the plot twists at the ending, which made the show addictive and captivating. This leaves room for another season.
Lows
There were minimal lows; the primary low point is that the background depth is lacking behind Staten’s late wife and how she died. This would help capture the knowledge behind their love and what happened. Another low was killing off the son; it was a bit extreme, even though it was part of the story. It would have been better if he were just significantly injured.
Verdict
‘Ransom Canyon’ is a captivating drama that captures the heart behind being a rancher and living in Texas. It is full of plot twists and meaningful moments. It is worth watching, considering how addictive it is from the first episode.
