“Danny Reagan’s Heartbreak: The Shocking Truth About Linda’s Demise on Blue Bloods”

It goes without saying that one of the most devastating moments throughout the Blue Bloods franchise was when Danny Reagan revealed his wife, Linda Reagan, had died. As the show continues to air reruns on CBS, viewers are curious about what happened to Linda and when she died on the show.

When Did Linda Reagan Die on ‘Blue Bloods’?
Linda died offscreen in between season 7 and season 8 of the show. Her final appearance was in season 7, episode 22, titled “The Thin Blue Line.”

How Did Linda Reagan Die on ‘Blue Bloods’?
In season 8, episode 1, Danny revealed that Linda died in a helicopter crash during a talk with his therapist. Her death seemingly came just a short time after she and her kids escaped the fire at their family home.

“Linda’s death wasn’t your fault. She was doing her job [as a nurse]. She died doing what she loved,” the therapist said. “She died in a helicopter crash, airlifting her patient.”

However, speculation later grew that Linda’s death wasn’t an accident when Danny went toe to toe with cartel member Louis Delgado in season 9.

“First your house burns up and then a chopper goes down — that’s some pretty bad mojo you carry around,” Luis told Danny.

Showrunner Kevin Wade told TVLine that bringing up Linda’s death struck a nerve for Danny and raised questions for viewers about what really happened to her.

“The fact that Delgado brings it up certainly sounds alarms for Danny, and likely does for the audience as well,” he said.

It wasn’t until season 9 that cartel member Jose Rojas’ name was brought up as Linda’s potential killer.

“We both want Jose Rojas. He’s responsible for the murder of my wife and of yours,” Luis said to Danny, implying that Linda’s death was a result of a hit put out by the cartel.

Who Played Linda Reagan on ‘Blue Bloods’?
Linda was played by Amy Carlson for seven seasons of the show. Amy, who chose to leave the show after her contract ended, said that she was shocked by the manner in which Linda died on Blue Bloods.

“I feel badly that she dies the way she dies,” Amy told Deadline in November 2017. “I did not know they would do that, I was surprised. I wouldn’t have done that.”

Amy also said that she missed working with Donnie Wahlberg, who played Danny on the show.

“What I miss most is working with Donnie, and Donnie has been a dream since I left. He said something really sweet about me on the Andy Cohen Live show the other day, and even the very first night that the series aired this season, he said something about his tears were for missing me and for loss of working with me as an acting partner. He’s just been so generous and sweet,” she recalled. “I could just tear up right now thinking about how sweet he’s been. I miss working with Donnie. I miss playing those scenes with him. We had a lot of fun. We put a lot of work into those scenes, and we were both super committed to doing right by those characters.”
