Days of our Lives continues to soar on Peacock after its move from NBC in 2022. With it doing well comes an announcement about the future of the hit soap opera. Days of our Lives will continue airing on Peacock for at least two more seasons, bringing it through Season 63. That is an impressive feat for a soap, especially after many were canceled and pulled off the air.
According to Deadline, Days of our Lives, the Peacock-exclusive soap, was greenlit for Seasons 62 and 63 with the renewal. Season 61 is airing, which means there is plenty more storytelling out of Salem to come. It has been a tough year for the cast and crew of Days of our Lives as they mourned the loss of star Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black, and before that, Bill Hayes, who played Doug Williams on the soap for decades.
‘Days of our Lives’ Garners 13 Daytime Emmy Nods Ahead of Renewal
Hot on the heels of the Daytime Emmy nominations, Days of our Lives continues to get good news. It was nominated in the Best Drama category alongside CBS’s The Young and the Restless and ABC’s General Hospital.
Several actors were also nominated for their performances, including Paul Telfer, who plays Xander Kiriakis, and Linsey Godfrey, who plays his wife, Sarah. There were also nominations for Blake Berris as Everett Lynch, Emily O’Brien as Theresa Donovan, and Ashley Puzemis as Holly Jonas. The storylines the actors were nominated for were some of the best, including Ashley as Holly battling her demons.
Days of our Lives was also nominated for writing, casting, and directing.
July Sweeps Heat Up in Salem
The two-year renewal for Days of our Lives is excellent news as things continue to intensify in Salem. Johnny (Carson Boatman) is currently on trial for the attempted murder of his father, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel).
As the family worries about Johnny’s fate, Sami (Alison Sweeney) remains in Salem to support her son. Meanwhile, EJ has chosen to represent his son despite being the alleged victim.
There is also some interesting movement with Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien), as they prepare to move in together despite Rachel’s (Alice Halsey) dismay. Expect more chaos coming out of that storyline soon.
With the news of the two-season renewal, Days of Our Lives has endless possibilities for upcoming storylines. The writers can develop longer arcs without worrying whether Peacock will continue airing the soap for the next few years.
